The Value of Operational BI
In many industries and application areas, access to the most up to date information is critical. Examples include trading stocks, interacting with customers, controlling operations, or conducting web business in real time. In such cases, data warehousing, with its daily or weekly refresh, does not provide data of the timeliness required.
In most cases the operational data resides in highly tuned databases that are vital to the applications that run the business. Issuing random, long-running, complex queries against the operational data places an unpredictable load on operational databases that can be deleterious to operational performance. WireCache solves this problem by providing a live cache of operational data. Queries run against WireCache, not the operational databases. So decision makers get access to the live data that they need but their activity has little or no impact on running operational applications.
