Mission
Founded in 2001 and based in Mountain View, California, WireCache is a team of RDBMS, transaction processing, data warehousing and server hardware veterans who believe that the database management system is the central element in the fabric of most modern computing architectures, and that the six-month, half-a-million-dollar server upgrade mentality that has characterized the DBMS server marketplace for nearly two decades must give way to a new view of the DBMS server as a self-tuning, self-managing autonomic element of the enterprise network fabric.
WireCache believes this transition, driven by:
- huge increases in the scope of database-based computing in the corporation
- the astronomical growth in structured, semi-structured and multimedia data capture and storage
- the shift to near-real-time service-oriented architectures demands that database management systems be upgradeable in minutes or hours, not weeks or months, and that the effect of the upgrade -- more capacity, improved throughput, and better wall-clock response time -- be guaranteed before the upgrade is undertaken.
Funded by DCM and El Dorado Ventures, WireCache set out to crack one of the toughest technological problems in commercial computing -- the wirespeed analysis, routing, and memory-optimized execution of transactional SQL traffic -- in order to produce an appliance that could transparently accelerate relational database management system servers on the wire, without requiring any changes to the existing DBMS server or the application logic using that server.
The result of that effort is WireCache's DA3000 family of transparent DBMS appliances, and WireCache's no-excuses, no-fine-print guarantee that our appliances will give our customers at least two to three times the capacity of their current DBMS server for less than half the cost of a traditional database management system server upgrade, in less than two days, with no changes to their existing infrastructure whatsoever.
